A starting point for accessing fibre directly from South West England Fibreshed members, this sample card makes producers visible in our supply network. We are creating opportunities for connection and encouraging a relational approach to working with fibres and the farms and landscapes where they have originated.ย ย
Focussing on wool, our primary fibre resource in the UK, the card features 30 yarns produced by 10ย of our members across the region.ย Given our wool resource renews annually with every shearing season, samples here should be seen as representative of the diversity of our regional resource;ย the exact yarns available will vary slightly from year to year.ย
A great diversity of farm size, scale of production, landscape, sheep breed and farming practice exists across our membership.ย All of our producers are making a conscious contribution to a more responsible textile system by honouring the potential of native breed wool and going to considerable lengths to grow, harvest and process it into yarn. We distinguish between different producersโ farming practices by listing certifications they have achieved andย encourage everyone to visit their profiles on our Producer Map online, their respective websites and to initiate conversations in person.ย
Support and invest in an alternative future of fashion, clothing and textiles by sourcing local fibre. Working in this way celebrates local agri-culture, holds real potential to effect positive change in our regional landscape through agroecological farming, and affords us a rare opportunity to produce items instilled with sense of place.ย
