I handspin, hand weave and naturally dye locally sourced wools – from the flock at Embercombe, Devon for example. I have been experimenting with making shawls, blankets, rugs and clothes for over two years in and around the Dartmoor area. My partner and I rent half an acre of land in the Tamar valley, we’ve been there for nearly a year growing organic veg and herbs, with an emphasis on regenerating the land after many years of overgrazing. This year I plan to grow dye plants to process and use within my own wool work, as well as to package and sell to other natural dyers.
We are starting the conversation about how the South West can produce more home-grown textiles and garments in a more healthy, resilient and regenerative textile ecosystem.
