Fernhill Farm in Somerset is the location for Fernhill Fibre, born of a lifetime of visionary shepherding skills by Andrew Wear to create a multipurpose sheep breed using a hybrid of British genetics. Producing both nutrient dense pasture-fed meat products and wool, we harvest fine fibres in all the native un-dyed colours whilst regenerating the land using Holistic Planned Grazing principles.
Fernhill Fibre’s focus has always been the business-to-business supply chain. After a decade of harvesting and grading raw fleece to market privately in variable quantities, our future emphasis is to offer natural craft items, felts, yarns and finished products.
The Fernhill Fibre pop up-wool shop attends specialist wool shows (Wonderwool Wales, NSA South Sheep, Buckfastleigh Wool Gathering) and local Christmas Markets with a range of 100% wool items to raise awareness of British wool. We supply spinning and felting fleece and rovings, natural knitting and weaving yarns, felt, cloth and sheepskin products from our online shops. We are also proud to support local artisan crafters and use only UK manufacturers to commission finished and ready-to-wear garments. Finally, our farm is a rural education centre and we host sheep shearing courses, wool handling workshops and fibre retreats as well as regularly advising others on how to add value to their fibres.
We are starting the conversation about how the South West can produce more home-grown textiles and garments in a more healthy, resilient and regenerative textile ecosystem.
